Edge of network

The outer most point of presence for a network such as the cache facility at the edge of a corporate network. If a request for data comes from a global location that is on the edge of a corporate network it is more efficient to retrieve data cached locally rather than requesting the data from a server situated more centrally on the network.


Editable area

Editable areas are those parts of web pages that have been set as content editable areas so administrators with editing permissions can make changes to the areas using the edit in place content editor.


Email alert

A dynamically generated email triggered by certain attributes within the CMS such as a review date becoming due. Email alerts can also be triggered and sent to subscribers who have expressed interest in receiving notifications of news articles being added to a site.


Extranet

A Web site that is not accessible to public and is protected by a password and/or firewalls. It is typically provided by businesses for suppliers and key customers.
