An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. An IP identifies the connection to the network and controls how computers or devices send packets across the Internet. An IP address is a unique number in a particular format: aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd.

An Internet Service Provider (ISP), often used interchangeably with Internet Access Provider (IAP), is a company that provides its customers access to the Internet.
